Cong to end discrimination between locals and non-locals

The Congress government, if elected to power, will remove the “discriminatory” mechanism put in place by the Chamling government to bar the non-local residents from availing facilities

Flaying the Pawan Kumar Chamling- led Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) government for putting in place a “discriminatory regime” to favour the locals only, the Congress today promised to restore equality among the citizens for availing various benefits, including education and health facilities.

The Congress government, if elected to power, will remove the “discriminatory” mechanism put in place by the Chamling government to bar the non-local residents from availing facilities like BPL cards, health and education facilities and jobs in government institutions, Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) president Nar Bahadur Bhandari told reporters here after releasing the party’s election manifesto.

“How can a state government violate the provisions of Article 14 of the constitution to which it has taken oath by discriminating among the citizens on the basis of locals and non-locals?”, he asked.
