UTTAR PRADESH was on the priority list of the Congress Party and top leaders would soon take stock of the situation of the State to strengthen the party base here. This was disclosed by Manmohan, political advisor to the Prime Minister during his short stay in the city on Thursday.
Talking to mediapersons he said it was the political obligation of the Left Front to raise their voice against the coalition government at the Center. They too understand the sensitive political situation and their constructive role in handling the fluid situation.
He said the stage was set for the Congress to start its drive to strengthen its base in this State. Very soon, young Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would start the drive under the expert guidance of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
To a question he said the Center would neither withdraw support to Mulayam Singh Government nor would it dismiss it. The party under its well-planned strategy, would surround the State Government on several issues and would expose its failures so that people of the State could assess its capabilities before electing it in the forthcoming elections.
He denied that any effort was being made to take Raj Babbar into the party fold.

{{/usCountry}}About demolition in Delhi the PCC Chief Naresh Sharma and New Delhi Congress president Ashok Chopra, who had accompanied Manmohan, said this has definitely created a problem for the Party. But in the wake of the Court’s order they had no option but to grant relief to the displaced persons.
However, the government had adopted a very considerate attitude towards aggrieved citizens, Manmohan added.
He said despite several odd situations, the Congress has succeeded in gaining popularity due to its liberal and welfare policies. It was expecting better results in the near future.
