Congress heavyweight, Manoranjan Bhakta won the lone parliamentary seat in the Andaman and Nicobar islands defeating his nearest rival Bishnupada Ray of the BJP by a margin of 30,500 votes on Thursday.

While Bhakta, who was the Lok Sabha MP from the islands for seven consecutive terms between 1977 and 1999, polled 85794 votes, Ray secured 55294.
There were a total of 12 candidates in the fray.
