DEMANDING THAT the shortage of doctors be met and an inquiry in the lens scam in ophthalmology department of the district hospital be instituted, Congress activists staged a dharna at the district magistrate’s office on Tuesday. Presiding over the dharna, Congress leader Brij Mohan Sonker said that poor people were suffering due to largescale transfers of doctors from the district hospital. He demanded immediate appointment of doctors in the district hospital to improve health services.

Delivering his views on this occasion, Congress leaders Rais Ahmad Khan and Kusum Pandey said that the Union Government had provided lenses under the National Blindness Eradication Programme but the health officials in the district hospital did not provide them to the needy. They demanded an inquiry in this case.
Laxmi Chand Sinhania and Ram Pyare Patel also expressed their views at the dharna and blamed the State government for meting out a stepmotherly treatment to Purvanchal.
