Congmen go on the rampage

Around 800 Congress workers courted arrest at the district headquarters here on Wednesday as part of their statewide jail bharo agitation to protest against the alleged misrule of the SP-led state government. Agitated party workers also ransacked public property outside the office of the district magistrate. An uproarious scene was witnessed at the venue of demonstration when some Congress workers also burnt posters and banners of Samajwadi Party.

800 activists court arrest as part of statewide stir

Around 800 Congress workers courted arrest at the district headquarters here on Wednesday as part of their statewide jail bharo agitation to protest against the alleged misrule of the SP-led state government.

Agitated party workers also ransacked public property outside the office of the district magistrate. An uproarious scene was witnessed at the venue of demonstration when some Congress workers also burnt posters and banners of Samajwadi Party.

A large number of Congress workers from different parts of the city thronged the District Headquarters and staged demonstrations. The Congress workers entered the DM office complex and ransacked government properties while raising slogans against the state government.

The district administration arranged buses for their court arrest but the Congress workers denied to sit inside them and instead marched in a procession to Police Lines. On the way, they also ransacked the hoarding of Mulayam Singh Yadav and tore SP banners.

President of District Congress Committee, Harish Chandra Singh claimed that thousands of Congress workers courted arrest today. Congress leaders including City President, Rais Ahmed, Chairman of Gangapur Nagar Panchayat, Dilip Seth, Chairperson of Ramnagar Palika Parishad, Rekha Sharma, Vijay Shankar Pandey, Anil Srivastava, Shobh Nath Yadav, Dr. Satish Rai, Jitendra Seth and other leaders strongly criticized the alleged misrule of state government.

Later in the day, ACM (III) Puneet Shukla informed that the arrest party workers were later released from the Police Lines.

Meanwhile Congress leader, Harish Chandra Singh denied any report of ransacking outside DM office. He said that Congress workers were only staging a dharna peacefully and raising slogans at that time.

However, employees of the DM office told the media that a large number of Congress workers had reached the DM office and ransacked the property.
