TWO POLITICAL parties, the BJP and the Congress, issued symbols to two candidates for the post of corpotrator and member, in 30 districts. There was confusion about who will be the official candidate of the party.
The State Election Commission on Sunday clarified the issue regarding the allotment of party symbols.
“If the State president of any political party mentions that the candidate who has applied first has been rejected and the symbol allotted to the second candidate, in that case the second applicant will be the official candidate of the party. But it should be mentioned by the party president concerned on the form 13 issued to the candidates,” the SEC added
Additional election commissioner Vinay Priya Dubey said if no such remark was made by state president, the candidate who has filed the nomination paper first will be the party’s official candidate. TAKING SERIOUS note of the complains that in several districts the candidates were not allowed to file the nomination papers, the State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday directed the district magistrates to inquire into the matter.
If the candidates who could not file their nomination papers wished to record their statement, they should be permitted to do so, it said.
The SEC received a complaint that in Varanasi, Lucknow, Bhadohi, Faizabad, Sitapur, Bareilly, Mainpuri and Bulandshahr districts several candidates were not allowed to file their nominations.
