With public outrage growing over justice denied to the 1992-93 Mumbai communal riots victims, the Congress high command has asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to explain what action his government has taken on the findings of the Srikrishna Commission, which investigated the mayhem that claimed 900 lives.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also asked Deshmukh, through her emissary AICC General Secretary Margaret Alva, what action he has planned.
Sources said the party’s central leadership was annoyed with Deshmukh for his delay in briefing it about his government’s action on the Srikrishna report.
A delegation of Muslim leaders and prominent citizens met Deshmukh in Mumbai last month to complain that certain lapses pointed out in the Srikrishna report were not properly tackled.
