A meeting of JKPCC senior functionaries, including ministers and legislators, took place in Srinagar to devise strategy for the forthcoming assembly elections.

According to a party spokesman, AICC general secretary in charge of the J&K affairs Ambika Soni was the chief guest, while leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and JKPCC president Prof Saifuddin Soz were also present at the meeting.

According to the spokesman, the leaders discussed challenges before the party at the state and national levels and the circumstances that led to the defeat of the alliance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

The meet has been seen by many as crucial, as the Congress is likely to discuss the future of the alliance with NC in the state.

The meeting between senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed at latter’s Gupkar residence on Saturday triggered speculations about possibility of an alliance between the two parties, which had earlier formed an alliance government in 2002, and the end of the six years of alliance between the NC and the Congress.
