Amid speculations of the six-year-old alliance between the Congress and the National Conference (NC) coming to an end in the wake of the Lok Sabha poll drubbing, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) met here on Monday to discuss poll strategy for the upcoming state elections.
A meeting of JKPCC senior functionaries, including ministers and legislators, took place in Srinagar to devise strategy for the forthcoming assembly elections.
According to a party spokesman, AICC general secretary in charge of the J&K affairs Ambika Soni was the chief guest, while leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and JKPCC president Prof Saifuddin Soz were also present at the meeting.
According to the spokesman, the leaders discussed challenges before the party at the state and national levels and the circumstances that led to the defeat of the alliance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
The meet has been seen by many as crucial, as the Congress is likely to discuss the future of the alliance with NC in the state.
The meeting also holds importance as speculations are rife that the Congress is trying to reach out to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which is leading from 41 assembly segments in the recently-concluded parliamentary polls.
