A delegation from the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), led by president Ram Babu Sharma would seek time from the party president for a rally in the city. "This is a historic occasion for us as lakhs of people living in the capital have benefited from the notification," said Sharma.

The party, which was on the receiving end due to the sealings and demolitions for the last over one year, has now become combative and hopes that the MPD would revive its fortunes in the forthcoming elections. A survey, done by HT, had shown that the Congress would lose if elections were held in January 2007.

The resolution of the Congress thanked the party president, the Prime Minister, Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and his deputy Ajay Maken for the "historic MPD". Sharma said the issue of regularisation of unauthorised colonies was pending for the last 30 years and 35 lakh people have benefited from the move. "95 per cent of the affected people in the city would benefit from it," Sharma claimed.
