Solanki had offered his resignation after the Congress lost the Assembly elections against BJP, led by Narendra Modi.

"Party high command has started consultations to replace Solanki. Solanki himself had offered to step down after Congress lost the assembly elections to Modi," sources in the state party unit said.

"The party has so far not said that it has accepted the resignation offer of Solanki. But they have started an exercise to replace him," party sources said.

One of the factions of the state Congress had recenlty held rounds of meetings demanding that an original Congressman should be given the job to lead party when the Lok Sabha elections are due, party sources said.

Leaders whose names are being taken for replacing Solanki, includes Siddarth Patel, Arvind Sanghvi and Narhari Amin. There are many other contenders to the post, sources said.

"The Congress high command is busy in solving the long jam between the UPA and the Left Parties on the neuclear deal. Once it is solved they might take up the issues like changing of state GPCC head," sources said.
