"Breaking of the alliance between BJD and BJP will rather frustrate the Congress hope of winning more seats in Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state," BJD's Rajya Sabha member and chief strategist Pyare Mohan Mohapatra told reporters in Bhubaneswar.

Congress appeared to be hopeful of winning in several constituencies by defeating BJP candidates, but now they would have to face the BJD candidates, he said.

"Congress should try to understand the ground reality and the rising popularity of BJD under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik," he said.

There is no reason for Congress to be happy about the end of this alliance, Mohapatra said.
