Asserting that the Congress did not believe in such nefarious activities, the party suspected that phone-tapping could be result of massive power struggle going on in the Samajwadi Party in the State.

UPCC spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said during the ongoing STF surveillance against mafiosi in the State, it appeared that the probe agency had succeeded in getting conversations of senior SP leaders including the CM, Amar Singh and other members of the Yadav family with these mafiosi.

He said whenever STF got success in surveillance of government backed criminals, then Yadav and Amar Singh had come out with accusation of phone-tapping against the Congress.

Asserting that the Congress never indulged in such activities, Singh said the allegations by the CM was not new. During the last few years Yadav and Amar Singh had made this allegation more than half- a-dozen time.

He said the State Government had been avoiding CBI inquiry in these heinous crimes for fear of backlash.
