THE CONGRESS on Tuesday presented another memorandum to the Election Commission seeking action against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct. A delegation of Congress leaders handed over the memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer of the State Vijay Patidar.
In the memorandum, the party alleged that announcement of power subsidy to farmers by the CM amounted to violation of Model Code of Conduct. State Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal, who led the delegation, said the BJP Government had reduced power subsidy for farmers from Rs 1.20 per unit to 55 paise in 2005 but the CM was now making false announcement regarding subsidy to derive mileage in Budhni by-election.
The Congress accused that Transport Department officials of Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Vidisha and Sehore acquired buses and jeeps to mobilise crowd at the time the CM filed nomination papers at Sehore. ‘Misuse’ of official machinery as manifested by this act also amounted to violation of Model Code of Conduct.
The memorandum stated that the State Government was releasing advertisements to news channels and newspapers carrying picture of the CM and it was being distributed among electorate of Budhni constituency.
