The bill, which bars women of the state from being the residents after marriage to non-residents, will be defeated at any costs, Congress candidate for Jammu Lok Sabha constituency Madan Lal Sharma told a gathering here.

The bill, already passed in the state Assembly, has been strongly favoured by the People's Democratic Party among others.

Sharma, presently PWD Minister in the PDP-led coalition government, highlighted the achievements of his government and said that granting of Dogri status to Jammu was achieved by persistent pressure by the state government on the Centre.

Besides, welfare of border people including removal of mines from their fields, paying them exgratia, border ceasefire have been achieved by our government, he claimed.

He, however, charged previous National Conference government of signing memorandum of understanding with the Centre to put a blanket ban on recruitments in the state.
