The BJP is set to chair several key parliamentary standing committees while the Congress has been denied its top choice of heading the human resource education panel.
Instead, the largest Opposition party will get the chairman’s post on home ministry. The Congress may also head the panels on law and justice and environment.
Citing its collective strength of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha qualifies for an additional chairmanship, the Congress is negotiating for a fourth post in parliamentary panels and is hopeful of bagging the chairman’s post in the standing committee on finance.
While the BJP will retain the HRD panel, Trinamool’s Dinesh Trivedi and BJD’s Pinaki Mishra are set to lead the railways and urban development respectively.
The Left parties will not be heading any standing committee, after a long time. Out of the 24 standing committees, the BJP is set to chair 11.
The ruling party may lead the panels on energy, communications and IT, coal and steel, petroleum and defence, among others. JP Nadda, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Anurag Thakur are seen as possible choice as chairmen.
The Congress may pick Shashi Tharoor from Lok Sabha to head a panel.
