The Congress Party is learnt to have decided to stake claim for formation of a government in Jammu and Kashmir without the support of People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The decision was taken at a meeting of the senior Congress leaders chaired by party chief Sonia Gandhi at Delhi on Tuesday night. The party also authorised Sonia to make an announcement in this regard.
The meeting of senior Congress leaders was taken after the deadlock continued over the Congress and PDP with both the parties gunning for the Chief Minister's position.
Meanwhile agencies add that Congress leader Manmohan Singh said that "a decision has been taken. It will be announced by the party President".
Asked when the decision would be made public, he said "It is left to her". Asked about the possibility of Congress-PDP alliance, Singh said "we are still hopeful."
He said all issues relating to government-formation were discussed threadbare.
