'Continue with telecom reform and deregulation'

The overall orientation of the finance minister needs to be aimed at promoting a balanced economic growth with a target to achieve a GDP of 7 to 8 per cent in the next year. Some of the policy issues that I look forward to are rationalization of direct taxes, further reduction of custom duties and corporate taxation and the streamlining of taxes with the implementation of VAT.

On the sectoral growth, wireless saw a phenomenal 70 per cent growth last year and we see broadband as the next wave of growth. 2004 was the year of infrastructure build outs with all major operators investing in building next-generation converged telecom networks to deliver broadband services for enterprises and consumers.
