Strange is the weather in the hill queen this time. In the peak summers when the temperature usually touched 30 degree’s Celsius residents are donning light woolens and lighting room heaters.
Tourists who are visiting famous hill town to get relief from the soaring temperature in the plains were seen strolling on the famous mall road wearing jackets, overcoats and hand gloves.
However, according to the director Meteorological Centre Shimla, Manmohan Singh temperatures in the state as well in the town are normal.
"This year, maximum temperature in the hill town has been recorded between 24 to 29 degrees Celsius. If we study the previous records 24 degrees is the normal temperature in Shimla," said Manmohan Singh.
Citing the example of last year’s weather conditions around this time Manmohan said weather in the May and June of year 2010 was unusual as the temperature in the town was soaring over 30 degrees Celsius.
Citing the reason for prevailing cold conditions in the town Manmohan told Hindustan Times that continuous rains especially in the nights due to frequently hitting western disturbances and high humidity have bring down the minimum temperature in the hill state. The minimum temperature which normally remains above 15 degrees Celsius has come down to 12 degrees C.

{{/usCountry}}Explaining the change in weather pattern this year Singh said temperatures in the hill queen were showing gradual increase year by year and were recorded above the normal.
"This year maximum temperatures as well as minimum temperatures have slipped by four to five degrees as compared to the last year causing the difference" Manmohan said.
Regularly hitting western disturbances and high amount of water content in the air has also led to the more than average rainfall in the state this year.
State has experienced highest rainfall in the peak summers after the year 2007. Normal rainfall in the month of May is 61.8 mm while most parts of the state have experienced rainfall over 70%.
