Contraband worth 10 lakh seized in J&K

Ten kilogram of charas, worth ten lakh in the international market, and 18 kg of poppy have been recovered from two trucks on Jammu-Srinagar national highway and two persons were arrested in this connection.

A girl, who was allegedly kidnapped two weeks ago, was also rescued during the operations.

Ten kg of charas was seized from a Delhi-bound truck carrying apples at Chanderkote in Doda on Sunday night after police intercepted the vehicle and searched it, police said.

Driver of the truck Ali Mohammed, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag was arrested for smuggling of narcotics. The truck was also seized, they said.

The police also recovered 18 kgs of poppy from another truck owned by one Gurmeet Singh on the highway at Jajerkotli in Udhampur on Sunday night, police said.
