FOLLOWING STRONG protests by students under the aegis of the National Students’ Union of India – the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya today announced that the new rule of promotion to next term/class would be applicable only to the students seeking admission during 2006-07.
The RGPV had come out with a new set of rules on September 1 that necessitated the students to pass a particular set of practical and theory papers in the second and fourth term to get promoted to the next class, else they would be detained for a year.
Since September 25 was last date of submitting exam forms, the students were pressing for revoking of this sudden set of rules.
The students under the aegis of NSUI and led by Rahul Singh Rathod demonstrated at the SV Polytechnic on Monday and gave an ultimatum of 72 hours.
On Thursday, they staged huge demonstration on the RGPV campus following which the registrar of the university directed changes in the provisions – making the new rules applicable only to the students seeking admission to current session.
To celebrate their ‘victory’ the students have decided to organise a function at their college where Sukhlal Thakur and Rahul Singh Rathod would be felicitated. Mayor Sunil Sood and former MLA PC Sharma are expected to attend the programme.
