Cop grabs park, rears cattle!

'A public place meant for recreation and rest' may be the description of a park but a police officer is hell bent on changing its meaning. Even High Court order and government directives for the maintenance and preservation of parks in public interest have no value for this wily cop whose ways appear above law. Ram Shiromani Pandey, a Dy SP posted with Inter-State Border Police in Jhansi feels that the park near his house next to the Children's Hospital in Allenganj is his personal property bequeathed to him by his forefathers.

Ram Shiromani Pandey, a Dy SP posted with Inter-State Border Police in Jhansi feels that the park near his house next to the Children's Hospital in Allenganj is his personal property bequeathed to him by his forefathers.

Owner of dozens of well-bred cattleheads his cows and buffaloes stay put in this park which was once used by attendants of patients visiting the three hospitals in the vicinity. But now they have no place to spend their time.

What to say about attendants even residents of the area dare not enter the park if they want to escape the wrath of the gunmen who are deployed in the security of this officer, said a resident of the area on condition of anonymity.

This is not all. No body can even use the narrow lane adjacent to the Girls Hostel which this officer has illegally built. A demolition order of this girls hostel passed by the ADA is gathering dust in the files. Proud owner of this 55-room girls hostel the officer's gun totting guards have created quite a terror in the area.

DIG Akhilesh Mehrotra did not express much surprise but said he will take action in the matter. Confessing that Pandey was a controversial cop he said such persons have brought bad name to the police force. The officer during his posting in Kunda had taken away an AK47 and two SLRs, said the DIG. These weapons are still said to be in his possession. I have been asked to conduct an inquiry in this case, he added. When contacted, Pandey said his cattleheads occasionally went inside the park, adding that they they don’t stay in it for long as a cattleshed existed in his building. About AK47 and two SLRs, he said these weapons were with security personnel provided to him by the government.
