Constable Sanjeev Singh was arrested from Palwal in Haryana. Singh had been deployed there for the security of Ved Prakash, the head of Chaprola village, for the four months. It was here that he became part of the robbers’ gang.

On March 14, four employees of businessman RK Sharma withdrew Rs. 1 crore from a private bank in Ghaziabad. They did a business deal with a company and received Rs. 25 lakh in cash. Then they left the city in their Logan car.

When they reached Vivekanand flyover, they were intercepted by five armed robbers in a Bolero car. Two of the robbers carrying self-loaded rifles were in police uniform. After travelling nearly 100 km through Hapur, Bulandshahr and Khurja, the robbers in their Bolero car escaped with the cash, leaving the victims stranded near Aligarh.

On March 25, the police had arrested two members of the gang and recovered Rs. 70 lakh.
