A police constable was injured in an encounter between the police and naxalites near Raja Bhand locality in Bihar's naxal-infested Gaya district, a senior police official said.

The constable, identified as Sanjiv, sustained bullet injuries after the naxalites fired at the policemen during the encounter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Lodha said.

The encounter took place when a police team returning from nearby forests at Latua village after conducting a combing operation against the naxalites were fired upon by the ultras near Raja Bandh prompting the police to retaliate.
The encounter was on, reports reaching here at 2 pm said.
