Cop killers had come for some ?supari? killings!

The cat is out of the bag. The killers of head constable Ashok Pandey had not come to murder him. They had in fact come to commit a series of murders including that of a high profile student leader in the city. The head constable simply became a victim of chivalry. It is just a matter of chance that the head constable, after becoming suspicious of the assailants had tried to stop them.

Had it not been so, the assailants' main target on Monday was this student leader who hails from Ghazipur district, lives in a hostel near the AU Union building and owns a fleet of cars including two safari vehicles. The student leader earns a heavy amount as goonda tax from various contract works in Allahabad, Varanasi and Jaunpur districts. He has a criminal record and had contested the last AU Union election for the post of general secretary with NSUI backing.

Armed with bombs, 9mm pistols, two mobikes and a support vehicle the killers were heading to the University Road area after failing to find their target near the CMP Degree College Law Faculty, said sources. Their next target was the blood relation of a high profile Samajwadi Party leader. This relation of the leader has made in roads in several contract works in the city and is an eyesore for many players in this field.

The amount of Rs 1 crore collected by Babloo Misra is supari money for several murders, said the sources on condition of strict anonymity.

Police sources are quite sure that the other two desperadoes on the second mobike were Amit Chaube and Vinay Singh of Varanasi. They are also said to be sharp shooters of Babloo Misra gang. The support vehicle which was travelling at a distance might have been carrying Babloo Misra who had been behind the entry of these criminals from Purvanchal into the city, said the sources. All these criminals had been staying in the house of one Guddu Misra, resident of Industrial Area in Naini. Sources said, an attempt to know the location of Amit Chaube and Amit Singh was made by the police but they could not be traced in Varanasi.

Babloo Misra, according to sources, was stated to be hiding in Lucknow following the accidental killing of the head constable in Civil Lines on Monday.
