Cops botch up Amrendra murder case!

Here is the story--not of police negligence but deliberate botching up of a case in which the lower court, the district judge and even the High Court had refused to grant any relief to the alleged culprits on the ground that the issue was strong enough with sufficient evidence against them. Remember the recently much hyped Amrendra Pandey murder case and the strong protest it generated bringing political parties and trade unions together to demand strict action against the culprits.

Leader of employees of Triveni Sheet Glass Works, this trade unionist had become the eyesore of the management.

Various allurements and threats were reportedly made to win him over but in vain. As a result he was bumped off with the help of a well orchestrated plan in which killers were allegedly hired.

Amrendra was shot dead in cold blood at the factory gate while he was returning home on his bicycle from the nearby market.

Even when the judiciary refused to grant relief to the alleged culprits who were directly or indirectly associated with the murder the men in khaki have left no stone unturned to declare that they were closing the case in the absence of sufficient evidence. This means that all those whose hands were mired in the blood of Amrendra will go scot-free in this most talked about murder case of the year.

A cross section of leaders speaking on the occasion expressed shock and dismay over the manner in which the police had been all along trying to protect the perpetrators of the crime. This was a rare incident in the history of prosecution where cops were openly helping the accused, they pointed out. They demanded action against the SSP and the investigating officer.

Later they handed over a memorandum to an ADM addressed to the CM. The memorandum which has demanded complete review of the case goes on to threaten chakka jam at various places in case all their demands are not fulfilled by July 3.

The dharna and meeting were conducted by Harish Chandra Dwivedi and Sudhir Singh. More than half a dozen trade unions, leaders and activists participated in the protest.
