Two groups clash at police station

SUPPORTERS OF Samajwadi Party general secretary and former city president fought a pitched battle on the Chakeri police station campus here on Monday noon.
The situation reached to such a point that the police were left with no option but to cane-charge the SP workers exchanging blows right in front of their leaders. The cops infuriated at their unruly behaviour chased and beat them up.
The root of the trouble was a recent complaint made by SP leader Dr Mohd Zubair about phone calls on his home number. The callers, he said, were using expletives of all kinds and threatening the family members of dire consequences.
He suspected a fellow and senior party leader Mohd Hasan Roomi who lives next doors.
The police took up the matter but Goga Solanki, brother of late party MLA Haji Mushtaq Solanki tried to mediate with a patch-up formula. Solanki facilitated talks between Zubair and Hasan who agreed to bury the hatchet. However, Zubair portrayed this as his victory. This evoked a sharp reaction from the other side this morning. Hasan along with his several supporters reached Zubair’s house and accused him of making false complaints against him.
The arguments soon took an ugly turn and Hasan’s supporters let loose a reign of terror. They assaulted Zubair, threw stones at his house and badly damaged his car. Consequently, Zubair sent an SOS to his long-time friend and former city president Mehtab Alam. The latter responded instantly and by the time he reached general secretary of the local unit Jitendra Bahadur Singh had arrived to help Hasan.

Their supporters exchanged blows and threw bricks on the police station campus. The unrelenting group of SP workers even didn’t spare the furniture. At least seven persons, including Rosy and Mohd Zubair were injured in the free-for-all that lasted for nearly 30 minutes.
Normalcy could be restored when the police swung into action and brutally caned the troublemakers.
The station officer of Chakeri police station RK Singh, however, denied using force to bring the situation under control. He said both Hasan and Zubair have filed cases against each other and the police were investigating the matter.
