THE PEOPLE of Daliganj on Tuesday discovered their don in a different form.
They saw him and his guards being chased away by the police from near the polling booth through lanes and bylanes leading to his palatial house leaving bare-footed.
Arun Shankar Shukla “Anna” is under house arrest following a complaint of allegedly slapping a trader and intimidating other contenders in the fray for civic poll. He was accused of slapping a trader Atul Jain.
However, the police permitted him to go out of the house for a brief period to cast his vote. But the don mistook it as his release for a brief period. CO (Mahanagar) D K Rai was informed about the don. Sensing trouble, the CO rushed to the spot and hearing the siren of his official vehicle, the don fled, leaving his slippers behind as he ran towards his house along with policemen keeping him under house arrest.
For people of Daliganj, it was a rare sight. Anna took a shorter route to his house from behind the booth. Arun Shankar Shukla enjoys the status of a Minister of State Mulayam government. Rai admitted that he chased Anna away and later stepped up the security around his house.
After his arrest on Sunday, the don was released on bail. But the police had imposed section 107/116 as a precautionary measure on him and his family members in view of the poll.
