The Sonepat police on Saturday could not record the statement of a rape victim, who attempted to commit suicide, as her condition was critical.

The victim, 16, a native of Kharkhodda town in Sonepat district, was allegedly raped on January 5 by her neighbour. On Friday, she set herself ablaze after narrating the alleged incident to her family. The girl had suffered 90% burn injuries and was taken to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak. Doctors said a team of specialists from New Delhi had reached Rohtak for the victim's treatment but chances of survival were bleak.
