It was only because the third accused, Sachdev Salunke (22) resident of Narayanpura in Dhar cracked, that police were able to solve the crime and arrest the other two Laxman Metkar (22) and Siddharth Phagde (24), both residents of Balai Mohalla.

At first when police had questioned Laxman and Siddharth, they had very easily managed to deflect the police’s attention.

Even during the second round of interrogation, when their grilling was more intense, they denied any involvement, but the police were sure that they were involved, because of contradictions in their statements.

Laxman had told police that on the night Nitin went missing, he was having tea at a tea shop near Devshri cinema hall at around 9.30 pm, but Laxman’s mother told the police that her son had returned home very late that night.

Police then moved in and picked up Sachdev from his house in Narayanpur and questioned him while bringing him to Indore. Sachdev cracked under questioning and he told the police that they had got together and killed Nitin.

Police had come near Betma when Sachdev told them that Nitin’s ATM and other belonging were with him at his house, so once again the police went back to his house and seized those things. When police confronted Laxman and Siddharth with Sachdev’s confession they too finally confessed their involvement.

They told police that they had killed Nitin in quite a brutal manner. First they had hit Nitin on his head around six to seven times. Then they tied an iron rod with a cloth and twisted it around his neck, which finally killed Nitin. After killing Nitin, they had sent two SMSs to his father, just to confuse the police and then they had switched it off.
