A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable reported that he was shot at by two masked men in the wee hours, forcing him to retaliate outside ISRO’s Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) facility in Byalalu village, 40 km from here.

IDSN was commissioned in 2008 for tracking orbit control and housekeeping operations of India’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-I.

No injuries were reported but the police were searching all medical facilities in the vicinity to check if anyone was being treated for bullet wounds.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A R Infant told reporters that the police were ascertaining whether such an incident took place.

“We have neither found any spent bullets allegedly fired by the intruders nor have we come across any tyre marks of vehicles or footprints. No bullet marks were seen on the ISRO centre’s compound walls either,” he said at a press conference. The police have recovered six cartridges fired from the CISF guard’s gun.
