A special investigation team on Tuesday quizzed Ayesha Siddiqui, who claims to be Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik’s wife, over her allegations that Malik had married her in 2002.
The Central Crime Station team, which took over the probe, visited Siddiqui’s residence at the Banjara Hills in Hyderabad to record her statement.
The team collected details of Siddiqui and Malik’s stay in hotels after their marriage and the people who visited or invited them, family sources told HT. They also collected medical report to support her charge that the marriage was consummated and had a miscarriage subsequently.
A police team also went to Sania Mirza’s residence to question Malik but went back after seeing that several mediapersons was present outside.
Siddiqui, in the meanwhile, has found some support.
The Imam of the Tipu Sultan mosquein Kolkata issued a fatwa asking Muslims to socially boycott Malik if he marries Mirza. “The way Shoaib has cheated the girl (Ayesha Siddiqui) is condemnable. His marriage with the girl over telephone is valid as per the Shariat Islamia law,” said Maulana Nurur Rahman Barkati.
