There was utter chaos on the roads connecting Lakshman Mela ground when hundreds of people left the venue after attending the Samajwadi Party (SP) rally in the afternoon. Instead of moving to the parking lots allotted for the buses meant for ferrying rallyists, the mob of villagers was seen proceeding towards Hazratganj thoroughfare and the zoo.

People moving in groups on the roads during busy traffic hours curbed traffic flow to a snail’s pace. No traffic policeman could be seen near the Moti Mahal or Bhainsakund intersections to regulate the traffic movement.

Besides, the SP activists, party office-bearers, from various districts, added to the confusion as they had not parked their cars, jeeps and SUVs in the designated lots. Police officials deputed for security arrangements ignored plying of vehicles on restricted routes. Only vehicles of top officials were allowed to move on the Chirayyajheel Road for the conference venue.

SP (Traffic) RK Srivastava was not available for his comment regarding the daylong chaos.
