Cops, officials must share the blame

To a great extent, the cops were said to be responsible for the shooting incident and intimidation of some contractors which took place on the Nagar Nigam (NN) campus on Monday. The NN authorities too cannot escape the blame as they had not bothered to make proper security arrangements even after knowing that two mafiosi try all sorts of methods to grab the tenders in the city.

The NN authorities too cannot escape the blame as they had not bothered to make proper security arrangements even after knowing that two mafiosi try all sorts of methods to grab the tenders in the city.

Sources say, the incident could have been prevented in case the Civil Lines police station located just across the road had taken some initiative when strong arm tactic’s began on the NN campus in the morning. But it appears men in uniform chose to remain mute spectator because they knew that it was a fight between two mafiosi belonging to the ruling Samajwadi Party.

Confirmed sources said, a lanky youth claiming to be the man of SP MP Ateeq Ahmad had been snatching tender forms from the hands of NN contractors and tearing them away. Several contractors made a hue and cry over such happening inside the Nigam but there was nobody to come to their rescue. This ultimately led to the incident of firing inside the civic body office.

At almost all the government offices the men belonging to both the above-named sides confront each other on the tender issue leading to law and order problem. The same groups had earlier clashed at the DRM's office in order to grab railway contracts.

As for the cops such incidents of lawlessness have now become a headache as they are bound to reflect on their image in public eyes. Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner, Gaya Prasad, has also lodged a written complaint about the incident of firing which rocked the Nagar Nigam on Monday.

But a written complaint in this matter was lodged by one Bali Pandit against Ram Lochan Yadav, brother of SP MLA Bijma Yadav and two others earlier. As a result the MC's complaint was clubbed along with the complaint lodged by Pandit who was allegedly assaulted by Lochan's men.

The Municipal Commissioner has also cancelled all the tehbazari tenders. Now fresh tenders have been called on March 3 in the executive committee hall with foolproof security arrangements

No action as of now has been taken against those contractors who indulged in intimidation and physical assault.

The municipal commissioner Gaya Prasad is reported to have said that action against them will be taken following an inquiry. Contractors who will be found having committed misconduct on the campus will be blacklisted.
