Even after repeated directives of the traffic police, the firm managing the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway has failed to install lane driving metal signboards – leaving the commuters as confused as ever about which lane to take.
According to a senior traffic police officer, the agencies managing the NH8 have not demarcated any specific lanes, leaving the commuters confused.
On top of that, non-adherence of lane driving is a major cause of accidents on the NH-8, with heavy vehicles posing the maximum threat.
“So before fining violators, our job is to educate them,” the traffic police officer said.
A few months ago, the traffic police had asked the firm to install signboards on every electric pole, but they were placed only on two foot-over-bridges.
“We have again asked them to install these boards for the safety of commuters,” said the traffic police officer.
There are over 2,000 electricity poles on the entire stretch of the expressway at a distance of every 25 metres.
“It has come to our notice that heavy vehicles don’t follow the lane driving and block other vehicles which often leads to accidents. Due to this, there are frequent jams,” the officer added.
