In the first review meeting for the MCG elections attended by the state election commissioner, the deputy commissioner and commissioner of police on Thursday, it is also decided that two police personnel would stand guard at each polling booth.

An SHO (Station House Officer) and a magistrate will also be deployed for each ward to monitor the polling process.

The city police personnel would be joined by eight companies of about 600 policemen from the Haryana Armed Police and Indian Reserve Battalion.

“The DC and CP have been issued letters to take quick action against defaulters. They have also been instructed to maintain strict vigilance on the proceedings, maintain law and order and keep a close watch on candidates or volunteers with criminal history and bail jumpers,” the state election commissioner Dharam Vir said.

Police commissioner SS Deswal said candidates who indulge in defacement of posters, banners or chant slogans will be blacklisted and will not be allowed to contest.
