Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Devendra Fadnavis had brought the threat to Khadse to the state Assembly’s notice on Monday.

The SIM [Subscriber Identity Module] cards were bought using fake documents belonging to Jeetu Makhija.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Yenpure, said, “The accused who send the threatening SMS to Opposition Leader Eknath Khadse had purchased the seven cards from three different mobile shops.”

The police have summoned the owners of the three shops owners.

Investigations revealed that Pravin Dhonde, the owner of Pranali Enterprises, had sold two DOCOMO SIM cards to the accused, who used one to send the message to the Opposition leader. The police are questioning Makhija, whose name and photograph were used to procure the SIM cards, and mobile service distributors.

“We hope, we’ll be able to arrest the accused within a day or two,” Yenpure said. “Four to five teams are working on the case.”

Yenpure said that the accused is well known in Ulhasnagar.
