Cops were at odds over Talwar arrest

As the CBI indicates, some senior officers crumbled to the pressure and went ahead with the arrest, strongly opposed by the Noida police. Haider Naqvi reports.

The Noida police were deeply divided on the arrest of Dr Rajesh Talwar, who is still behind bars on charges of murdering his daughter Aarushi and their help, Hemraj. As the CBI indicates, some senior officers crumbled to the pressure and went ahead with the arrest — strongly opposed by the Noida police.

Then SSP Noida, A Satish Ganesh, had his reservations on the timing of arrest and wanted some more time. His seniors held a different line and made the Noida police act in haste. “It becomes clear with the case related document Noida police have handed over to the CBI,” said a source in the CBI.

The contents of the case diary and general diary are self explanatory and provide a clear view to the kind of rift the officers had over the timing of arrest. “The contents of the case diary are reflection of the opposite line the officers had taken; the GD contents make the rift clearer even further,” said the source.

It is believed this contradiction made the Noida police act with alacrity and irrationally — the factors compelling its investigators to botch up the crime scene. “The case is a really tough one to crack and everything depends on scientific tests; the agency is taking a mix of traditional and scientific approach to the case but with limited success,” said the official.

The CBI has presently directed all its energies at finding the khukri, which Krishna allegedly delivered to Hemraj at Dr Talwar’s house.

The agency, which has secured Krishna’s remand, is trying to find out why he delivered the weapon to Hemraj on the night of murder, said the source.
