The country cannot progress by hollow sloganeering like “Gharibi Hatao” but by taking concrete steps like privatisation and globalisation. Thanks to some economic reforms and largely due to huge outsourcing including medical tourism, we have achieved a substantial growth rate in our industrial sector.

However, the beneficiaries of this industrial growth have been people participating in the industrial sector who are in cities only. Our agriculture sector is yet to register a substantial growth and we see many farmers committing suicide. So our agri-economy also needs to be reformed by treating it as an industry and taking to contract and corporate farming. Some steps were taken in this direction but they remained only on paper.

We need to put these policies regarding contract and corporate farming into concrete measures so that we can actually progress in this sector. Here, we must remember that 70 per cent of our population is still dependent on agriculture and if there is no progress in agriculture then our industrial progress would be meaningless.
