According to an FIR filed in the Mahuli police station last night, former Minor Irrigation minister Ram Asrey Paswan indulged in corrupt practices as a minister between 1997-2002.

The Lokayukta (Vigilance) had ordered an inquiry in 2004 and the report had accused him of "first hand corruption charges."

Paswan, a resident of Raeema and elected from Khalilabad constituency several times, owns houses in Naurangia and Hariharpur.

He had allegedly purchased vehicles worth Rs 36 lakhs and licensed fire arms worth Rs three lakhs, besides farm lands to the tune of several lakhs.

The assets were registered in the name of his sons -- Mahendra Paswan Surendra Paswan, Narendra Paswan and Rakesh Paswan. He is also accused of purchasing lands for his daughters-in-laws in Kharwania Kalan and Raeema Viswanathpur villages.
