The police have registered an FIR against the four accused.

The incident occurred on Friday evening in the presence of Ghaziabad mayor Damyanti Goyal and MLA Sunil Sharma after a two-member technical committee, designated by the commissioner from Meerut, visited the area to inquire about the alleged faulty widening of Brij Vihar rail over-bridge.

"The councillors were agitated as the work was not allotted to their contractors and was directly tendered by the municipal commissioner. They wanted the work to stop even after the first committee did not find any fault in the widening process," said the injured executive engineer, AK Singh.

Singh was referred to MMG Hospital in Ghaziabad for medical examination.

Singh later lodged a police complaint regarding the incident, the police said.

GMC's chief engineer SK Agarwal told Hindustan Times that the mayor was invited by the technical committee; the MLA and the councillors joined her and created a ruckus to derail the proceedings.

Mayor Goyal, too, denied the accusations.

"The widening had a technical fault. The technical committee called us, and four-five of my supporters also joined me. Some locals raised slogans against me which resulted in the incident," she said.
