AFTER THE distribution of unemployment allowance here on Monday, the countdown for allocation of much-awaited Kanya Vidyadhan has started.
However, no date has been fixed for distribution of Vidyadhan allowance. But, according to senior leaders of the Samajwadi Party (SP), the function, where the Vidyadhan allowance would be given out, will be held after Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s rally.
Therefore, the distribution of Kanya Vidyadhan is likely to become the third major event in the city within a short span of time. Sources at the district secondary education office said that Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was likely to distribute the Kanya Vidyadhan allowance this year by the third week of this month, the sources said.
At the same time, the girl students, who passed the intermediate examination this year, were eagerly waiting to receive Rs 20,000 given out to each eligible candidates under the Kanya Vidhyadhan scheme.
Over 13,700 unemployed youths of the district have received unemployment allowance at a function at Phoolbagh. Over 15,000 candidates have submitted applications at the office of the District Inspector of Schools for the Vidyadhan allowance.
Out of 15,000 applications, 2,000 were rejected as these applications were submitted with fake fake income certificates. However, the number of the rejected applications might go up, said a DIOS official.

{{/usCountry}}The official further said that at present the amount sanctioned for the district under Kanya Vidyadhan scheme was Rs 16.80 crore which could be distributed among 8400 candidates only.
The sources further said screening of applications might be completed by the first week of this month.
Thereafter, the district treasury office would be asked to prepare the cheques so that the recipients got enough time to cash their cheques.
Talking to HT DIOS SP Diwedi said that the district might get more money under the Kanya Vidyadhan scheme. The State Government had set aside a sum of Rs 600 core for distribution under the scheme and out of this, a sum of Rs 450 core was give out, Dwivedi said.
