The Maharashtra election office is gearing itself up to ensure smooth counting of votes on May 13. Officials are being deployed at all the counting centres and are being trained to tabulate the results registered in the newly-introduced Electronic Voting Machines.
Training had already commenced to educate officials how to collect data from the EVMs and to ensure their tabulation, state election sources said.
The old process of opening ballot papers, mixing them and then tabulating had been done away with the introduction of EVMs where the entire votes polled could be immediately accessed with a single punch of a button.
A total of 14 EVMs per assembly constituency would be taken up during every round, the sources said adding the entire process of tabulating the results was expected to be completed by four pm.
The Election Commission had also tied up with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to disseminate results, the sources said.
Arrangements had already been made to ensure immediate updating of the website of the state election office to enable internet users to access results soon.

On the faulty EVMs reported during election, the sources said the faulty machines had been immediately replaced, hence there was no question of any faulty registration of votes.
