The Kerala High Court on Tuesday admitted a petition seeking a direction to the state government to probe Kannada actress Jaimala's alleged visit to the sanctum sanctorum of Sabarimala temple.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice VK Bali and Justice M Ramachandran, before whom the petition by astrologer Jaykumar came up, also issued notices to the state government and the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which manages the temple.
The court, however, did not issue notices to the two other respondents -- Jaimala, who has claimed she visited the temple 18 years ago when she was in her late twenties and touched the idol, and Unnikrihnan Panickker, who conducted the 'devaprasanam' (asrological evaluation of temple affairs).
Jaykumar had also wanted a fresh 'devaprasanam' to be conducted at Sabarimala.
Jaimala's claim kicked up a row as women aged 10 to 50 are forbidden to worship at the temple.
The bench also directed TDB to file a detailed affidavit regarding the various issues raised in the petition.
It granted four weeks to the board to present its views to the court.
