Court awards life imprisonment to five persons

Five persons, including notorious criminal Anwar Ali, have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court of first additional district and session judge L K Sharma in connection with a 2006 murder case.

Five persons, including notorious criminal Anwar Ali, have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court of first additional district and session judge L K Sharma in connection with a 2006 murder case.

While delivering the judgment yesterday, the judge also fined them Rs 10,000 or additional imprisonment, if they failed to pay the amount.

They were convicted for the murder of one Arvind Singh at Khanka in Kalikanagar.

Personal enemity was stated to be the motive behind the killing.

In a separate case, two sisters were convicted by the Fast Track Court-III additional district and session judge, Raghuvar Dayal on charges of killing their sister-in-law last year.

The court yesterday held Shipra and her sister Purva Chatterjee guilty in course of the trial and convicted them in the case on Friday.

The quantum of punishment would be announced on September 22.

The victim in her dying statewment told police that her sisters-in-law had set her on fire when she was preparing food in the kitchen.
