Court convicts youth cong leader

Chief Judicial Magistrate D P Aggarwal on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Amarjit Singh a youth Congress leader for three years rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on alleged charge of committing fraud and cheating one Harbans Singh a local resident.

Chief Judicial Magistrate D P Aggarwal on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Amarjit Singh a youth Congress leader for three years rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on alleged charge of committing fraud and cheating one Harbans Singh a local resident.

The prosecution alleged that the complaint was lodged with the police by Harbans Singh alleging that he was defrauded by accused Amarjit Singh on the pretext of offering a job in the forest department when his father Gurcharan Singh Panjgrain was forest minister and also had accepted sum of Rs 1.50 lakh in the year 2002 for a post of forest guard.

The complainant also alleged tht the accused Amarjit Singh also asked him to bring origional certificates to Chandigarh to join duty.

But later he discovered that the accused youth Congress leader Amarjit Singh had cheated him when he refused to return these back.

Later Harbans Singh filed a complaint with the police and the police enquiry found that a case of cheating and fraud was established and case was registered against the accused Amarjit Singh in the year 2003.
