District and Sessions Judge RD Nimesh said the statement of the magistrate would be recorded when the court meets next on August 17 and will be used as evidence.

Investigating officer KS Upadhiya also deposed before the court, where the accused Ali Mohammed was produced.

Twenty eight-year-old Imrana's case made headlines after a local community panchayat asked her to treat her husband as her son, declaring their marriage null and void.

Later a reported 'fatwa' by Islamic seminary Darul Uloom decreed she could no longer live with her husband. The seminary has since denied declaring the 'fatwa'.
