A local court has directed the state’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to register a case against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Principal Secretary C.V.S.K. Sharma and eight others for alleged irregularities in the Rs 1,757-crore Yellampalli irrigation project in Telangana.
The order was passed on a complaint filed by a city-based lawyer V. Srinivasa Rao, who alleged that the ACB director general had failed to act on his complaint, filed on January 24, on the Yellampalli project.
He also requested that necessary directions be issued to register a case against the CM and others.
Rao, in his complaint alleged that the “accused had tampered with the figures relating to the size of pipes and cost of steel, resulting in pecuniary advantage to the tune of Rs 600 crore”.
The petitioner’s counsel K. Ravindra Kumar cited the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report and the Lok Ayukta inquiry report on the case, besides submitting 19 other documents in support of his allegations.
The court for Special Police Establishment and Anti-corruption Bureau cases, directed the ACB director general to register the case under Section 13 (1) (D) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 120 (B) (conspiracy), 167 (misuse of official position by public servants), 201 (screening of evidence) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servants) and conduct a detailed investigation against the CM and others. The ACB has to submit its report by March 26.
