Bhuttan had sought a month’s bail to take care of his ailing father. He had also mentioned in his bail plea that his six-year-old son, who had been living with his family after Ruchi’s death, needed care.

Bhuttan has moved court five times so far for bail after he was arrested in July 2011. His pleas have been rejected by the Gurgaon district court, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Supreme Court.

Ruchi was found hanging at her DLF City residence last year.

Model-turned actor Meera Chopra is also an accused in the case.

Sumit faces charges under Sections 304 (b) (dowry death), 302 (murder), 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and is lodged at Bhondsi jail since July 6, 2011.
