The opposition CPI(M) in Assam on Saturday released its manifesto for the coming assembly elections in the state, promising to restore peace, establish unity and bring about development benefitting the poor.
Releasing the poll document, state unit secretary Uddhab Barman said besides protecting unity among the various ethnic communities, the party would also politically solve the insurgency problem through peace talks.
Land and food to the poor, employment for the jobless, welfare of farmers and artisans, protecting rights of workers and the self-employed, reform in education system, improvement of health care are some of the other poll promises.
Accusing the ruling Congress of indulging in "misrule, corruption and being anti-people and anti-development," Barman said his party would aim to dislodge the party from power.
The CPI(M) was for defeating the BJP, he said alleging that the saffron party created "communal feelings" here in the name of detecting illegal foreigners.
The party further aimed to establish a Left Front to fight for the cause of the poor, farmers, workers and the downtrodden, he said.
Barman said efforts were on for poll understandings with "secular parties" and the CPI(M) had already entered into seat adjustments with the AGP in 16 constituencies.
