In a statement issued after a two-day meeting of the party state committee which concluded here today, the party said it had never compromised on its secular position and opposing terrorist elements for temporary political gains.

Seeking to clarify the party position, the statement said the CPI(M) had never sought to defend the activities of Madani and his party.

It said after his acquittal in Coimbatore blasts case, Madani had openly denounced his earlier positions on issues. The change on his part was welcomed by CPI-M. But, this did not mean that the party had ever sought to defend any "illegal activites" indulged in by Madani or his party members in the past.

CPI-M has always fought terrorist activities and communal ideology which polarise the society into rival groups. But, a section of the media and UDF had been indulging in a totally baseless campaign against the party, the statement said.

The party position was that the law will take its own course, the statement said.
